Head to Columbia for a Cultural Weekend

Looking for something different to do this weekend? Then make plans to head to Columbia, South Carolina  for a weekend of uniquely cultural (and definitely hip) goings-on including an evening with modern performance choreography troupe, Pilobolus and the free Jam Room Music Festival at the Jam Room Recording Studio.

Need help with your weekend itinerary? Our suggestion would be to roll into town Friday afternoon and check into a downtown hotel like the Sheraton or the Hilton. Grab an early dinner at Motor Supply Company and then hit the 7:30 show of Pilobolus at the Harbison Theatre. Afterwards, head to the Hunter Gatherer Brewery and Alehouse for a Jam Room Music Festival kickoff party, then a nightcap at The Whig.

Sleep in a bit on Saturday or take advantage of your time in the big city and do a bit of sightseeing. Perhaps the South Carolina State Museum for the opening of their Secrets of the Maya exhibit or a few hours at the Riverbanks Zoo and Gardens. Then rock out at the Jam Room Music Festival along Main Street with indie rock headliners The Hold Steady and Justin Towns Earle and tons of other performances by local and regional bands. And if you've still got some mojo left at the end of the night, head to one of several Jam Room Music Festival after parties at Art Bar, New Brookland Tavern, Kelly's Deli & Pub or the Sheraton Rooftop.

Finish off the weekend with a leisurely Sunday brunch at the new Oak Table restaurant at the corner of Main & Gervais Streets. Part of Charleston's Indigo Road Restaurant Group (The Macintosh, Oak Steakhouse, O-Ku and The Cocktail Club), be sure not to miss the "House" Pop Tarts, the Shrimp and Lobster Omelet or the OT BLT.

Fun times in Famously Hot Columbia!
