Spirits Coming to Durham, North Carolina
As artisan distilled spirits are becoming all the rage, we knew it wouldn't take long for the trend to catch on in North Carolina. The newest entry into the handcrafted liquor scene is The Brothers Vilgalys Baltic-Style Spirits with their Lithuanian honey and spice liquor called Krupnikas in Durham, North Carolina.
According to owner Rimas Vilgalys, there are many variations of this particular liquor in the world, but he thinks his will offer a balance and complexity that many others don't have. A bit strong, but with a spicy and sweet flavor, Vilgalys claims it has a smooth finish without any alcohol 'bite'.
Although they are not quite making their own alcohol as of yet, they have secured a location on Ramseur Street in downtown Durham and are simply waiting on a few final permits before they can start distilling their liquid gold. And, in keeping with many of Durham's core values, they intend to feature local sourcing with a commitment to sustainablity and carbon neutrality.
